The Literature Research Of Modern Clinical Application Of Wenjing Decoction In JinKuiYaoLue

Objective:Wenjing Decoction which is from the "Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber" has been widely used in the Chinese medicine for many years. It can treat cold and deficiency, blood stasis, and miscellaneous gynecological diseases such as irregular period, dysmenorrhoea, menopause and infertility. After thousand years of clinical use, Wenjing Decoction has proven its effectiveness on even a wider range of symptoms through dosage adjustment with the help of western medical examination and scientific research. Lots of research papers are written about Wenjing Decoction. However, there is no large scale literature review that has been done to organize these researches. The purpose of this research is to organize these literatures, apply statistics on the clinical usage, efficacy and indications of Wenjing Decoction, and use the research result to come up with frequent addition and dilution of charge which can be used as a helpful reference for other doctors. Hence, the clinical usage of Wenjing Decotion will be increased as well as its clinical effectiveness.Method:This research is mainly based on China scientific journal from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) website, Periodpath Taiwan Periodical Literature, and clinical research papers on Wenjing Decoction between1979to2010. These literatures are categorized according to the level of evidence-based medicine of the Oxford Center. The number of literatures published on different levels were calculated. Excel formulas and tables are applied to do various calculation and summary such as the Wenjing Decoction’s applied field, symptoms, dosage adjustment, frequency of usages written in these literatures on different levels. This research has found258literatures written about the clinical usage of Wenjing Decotion. After excluding articles with literature review, without composition of doses, with more than7addition or3dilution, without ramulas Cinnamomi or evodia fruit being used, and use Wenjing Decoction scientific medicine powder which the daily dose is less than3g,141literatures were included in this research. Among141articles,15are about randomized controlled trial,35are case series study, and91are case report.Result:(1) Wenjing Decoction is prescribed frequently and it is used to treat dysmenorrhoea, irregular period and infertility. It also applies to cold syndrome including blood cold syndrome and deficiency cold, deficiency syndrome such as kidney, blood or qi deficiency, and blood stasis. Literatures of randomized controlled trial and case series study have proven the effectiveness of Wenjing Decoction especially on dysmenorrhoea, irregular period and infertility.(2) Applied Wenjing Decoction in the modern clinical research often has other herbs added. In various randomized controlled trials, eucommia ulmoides and fructus foeniculi are added the most. Semen persicae, corydalis ambigua and dipsacus root are ranked number two which have been added often. In the case series study literatures, rhizoma cyperi is added the most followed by dipsacus root, morinda officinalis, folium artemisiae argyi and semen cuscutae.(3) Randomized controlled trial literatures also indicate that Wenjing Decoction is quite effective on Pelvic blood stasis syndrome, menopausal syndrome, and endometriosis. Moreover, this research has also discovered that Wenjing Decoction can also be used beyond gynecological diseases. There are literatures found which prove the effectiveness of Wenjing Decoction on stomachache of deficient coldness pattern, male infertility and chronic appendicitis.Conclusion:To conclude, Wenjing Decoction has proven its effectiveness in these modern clinical research literatures and its indication also aligns with the regulation of diagnosis and treatment of Chinese medicine which can be a useful guideline for clinical treatment. In addition, this study has shown that the usage of Wenjing Decoction is no longer limited to gynecological diseases. Modern research tells us that its usage is more widely than what was traditionally known. This dissertation resents a systematic research on Wenjing Decoction’s modern clinical trail. It serves as a foundation of future research. The finding of this research can hopefully be used as a reference for future clinical studies on Wenjing Decoction with the expectation that there will be more and more clinical research studies on Chinese medicine which can bring it to a much higher level.
