The Effect Of Vitamin K Cream On The Colorectal Cancer Patients With Skin Toxicity Under Cetuximab Treatment

Background:Cetuximab (named Erbium; C-225) is a new type of targeted drug. Now widely used in colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, lung cancer, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma therapy. One of its side effects is skin toxicity. Cetuximab induced skin toxicity severely degrades the quality of life of the patients and can lead to delayed or interrupted treatment. Therefore, it is important to managing the skin toxicity, in order to ensure the treatment continuously and effectively, improving the survival rate and the quality of life. There are clinical studies confirmed that0.1%vitamin K1cream can effectively alleviate the cetuximab induced skin toxicity, it is not yet reported in mainland China.Objective:To explore the effect of0.1%VitK1on the colorectal cancer patients with skin toxicity under cetuximab treatment.Method:In2012,73inpatients with colorectal cancer treated by cetuximab were divided into experimental group and control group. Patients in the VIP ward were assigned into experimental group, and patients in the internal medicine garden ward were assigned into control group. Patients in the control group received only routine care. The experimental group’s patients received0.1%VitKi coated on the face, neck, chest, back, and finger (toe) nail margin three times a day as well as the routine care.Result:After8weeks of cetuximab treatment, the patients’skin itching and xerosis cutis in the experimental group were significantly improved than those in the control group (W=750.50, P=0.00;W=662.50, P=0.00).Conclusion:0.1%VitK1can improve the severity of skin itching and xerosis cutis caused by cetuximb when it is used on colorectal cancer patients.
