Vitamin D is a common steroid hormones can promote intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphorus, to maintain the body’s calcium and phosphorus balance, maintaining the normal function of bone cells and differentiation. In addition,vitamin D plays an important role in innate and adaptive immune system, can affect cell proliferation and differentiation and immune regulation. Diverse activities of vitamin D and its natural metabolites assure proper functioning of major human organs, including skin. Skin is the largest organ of the human body, direct contact with the outside world, is the body’s first barrier against the invasion of external pathogens. Skin is the vitamin D synthesis main place, also vitamin D through the effect of keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation in skin related disorders. This article will describe the production and physiological metabolism of vitamin D, the immune regulation of the vitamin D on the skin and the relationship between vitamin D and skin related diseases.
