Objective To discuss the advantage and disadvantage of the laparoscopic totalextraperitoneal herniorrhaphy (TEP) and Open Tension-Free herniorrhaphy (Lichtenstein)in the treatment of adults’ inguinal hernia. Methods The clinical data of54cases of total extraperitoneal herniorrhaphy (TEP)and52cases of open inguinal hernioplasty with tension-free (Lichtenstein) were analyzedretrospectively. After following up of6-24month, preoperative data and follow-up resultsof operation time, the day of hospital stay, time to recover to work and recurrence rate, seroma, chronic pain, foreign body sensation were collected and compared retrospectively. Results In TEP group, seroma occurred in2cases,1case had chronic pain,1case hadforeign body sensation and1case recurred. There is no cases of infection after theoperation; while in Lichtenstein group, seroma occurred in3cases,4cases had chronicpain,5cases felt foreign body sensation and recurrence has been found in1case. There isno cases of infection either. Comparing of two groups, there are no statistically significantdifferences among the average operation time, complication rate and recurrence rate(P>0.05). However the costs of hospitalization, postoperative chronic pain and foreignbody sensation are significantly different between the two groups(P<0.05).Conclusion TEP herniorrhaphy has the virtues of small trauma, quick recovery, shorter hospitalization time and small discomfort after surgery, especially for the relapsehernia and double side hernia. It is the comparatively ideal operation method of theinguinal herniorrhaphy at present.
