Background:Intussusception is one of the most common acute abdominal diseases in infancy, Early can be reset by non-surgical methods of air enema. However, there are still children who are not suitable for air enema because of a delay in diagnosis or are failed in reduction by air enema have to undergo surgery. Postoperative recurrence rate has been reported at around4%. Recurrence not only increases the suffering of children, but also increases the financial burden on parents. In order to reduce the recurrence rate, we have plused ileopexy on the basis of a simple surgical reduction of intussusception for some children during the last few years. But its clinical effect requires scientific evaluation to guide future surgical treatment of intussusception. Objective:The present study compared the incidence of recurrent intussusception after two different surgical procedures for intussusception in children.Methods:Selected49cases, who were diagnosed as intussuception and had been undergone surgical reduction in our hospital from2004May to2010September, were divided into2groups according different surgical procedure (simple manual reduction or manual reduction plus ileopexy),2-6years follow-up to postoperative. The incidence of recurrent intussusception was compared between the two surgical procedures. Results:There were four episodes of recurrence (12.1%) in patients who had simple manual reduction, one episodes (6.3%) in patients who had undergone manual reduction plus ileopexy. There was no statistical difference in recurrent rate between the two groups. Conclusion:Ileopexy is not better than simple manual reduction in preventing recurrence of intussusception in children.
