ObjectiveTo learn the KAP status and related factors of inpatients’ participation in drugsafety of intravenous infusion and nurses to promote the inpatients’participationinmedication safety that provides a theoretical basis for the development ofappropriate strategies to promote the participation of intravenous infusion in patientswith drug safety.MethodsIt is a combination of semi-structured interviews and questionnaires study.Thepurpose sampling was used to interview nurses and hospital patients to explore thestatus of hospitalized patients involved in the intravenous infusion medication safety.Under the guidance of KAP theory, combined with semi-structured interviews andinformation obtained literature review,we specify the suitable questionnaire for thestudy. Stratified sampling method was adopted to extract six secondary hospitals andtwo tertiary hospitals’588inpatients and317nursing staffs of Zheng Zhou to finishthe questionnaire. Using SPSS17.0statistical software for survey data analysis and tounderstand the current state of inpatients’ participation in intravenous infusion drugsafety of Zheng Zhou then analyzes its influencing factors. Results1.Interview Results:The interview results of Nurses: Nurses encourage patients to participate indrug safety, while there are concerns.Barriers to impede patients to participate in riskmanagement includes the difference of received information between nurses andpatients, the orientation of nurses and the interference of patients. The interview results of patients: Strategies when patients face adverse eventsare reported directly, discretion, choose alternatives and negative patient. Factors affectpatients’ participation are including the low level of trust, patients with a lack ofconfidence and patients’ concern.2. Questionnaire survey resultsStatus: The average score of hospitalized patients participating in drug safetyfor intravenous infusion was (3.96±0.48)points,the knowledge, attitude and behaviorsection average score were (3.94±0.50)points,(4.40±0.54)points,(3.89±0.52)points,respectively; The average score of nurses’ promoting patients participationin intravenous infusion of drug safety was (4.11±0.38) points, the knowledge, attitudeand behavior section average scores were(4.04±0.45) points,(4.10±0.55) points,(4.19±0.46) points, respectively.Factors: inpatients’cognition and behavior of participation in medication safetyof intravenous infusion in gender, age, occupation, education level,long-term residence, types of payment, length of hospitalization, whether suffering from chronic diseasesand infusion experience were statistically significant (P<0.05); Inpatients’attitude ofparticipation in medication safety of intravenous infusion insex, occupation, educational level,long-term residency, types of payment, length ofhospital stay, and infusion experience were statistically significant (P<0.05).Therewere statistical significance in nurses’ cognition of patients with intravenous infusionof medication safety in the hospital level, department, gender, age and title(P<0.05);there were statistical significance in nurses’ attitudes toward intravenousinfusion in patients involved in medication safety in hospital level, department, titleand duties (P <0.05); there were statistical significance innurses’ behaviorsofintravenous infusion toward patients on medication safetyin age and title (P<0.05). Conclusion1. The inpatients had a certain perception in medication risk of intravenousinfusion and a strong desire to participate in medication safety of intravenousinfusion, but the cognitive and behavior were in the medium standard, the barriers oftheir participation were objective exist.2. Gender, age, occupation, education levels, long-term residency, types ofpayment, length of hospitalization and experience of infusion were the influentialfactors affecting the participation of hospitalized patients. The patient’s cognition, attitude, and occupation were the main influence factors for patients’ participation inthe safety practice of intravenous infusion medicine administration.3. Nurses hold a cautious attitude to patients’ participating in drug safetymanagement. Nurses had different cognitive in their hospital grade, department, gender and titles.Nurses’ perception of inpatients’ participating in intravenousinfusion drug safety is the main factors involved in the promotion of patients’ attitudeandbehavior.
