ObjectivesTo explore the clinical effect of abdominal acupuncture treatment on postoperative sleep disturbance in gynecological patients.MethodsNinety gynecological patients with postoperative sleep disturbance were randomly divided into abdominal acupuncture group, sham acupuncture group, and blank control group. The patients in abdominal acupuncture group received abdominal acupuncture and basic treatment. The patients in sham acupuncture group received sham acupuncture and basic treatment. The patients in blank control group received basic treatment. All the patients were treated from the first day after operation, once a day, in all three days. After the treatments, the clinical effects were evaluated by the total score of deep sleep quality evaluation table, scores of sleep factors, the time of exhaust and defecation after operation, using visual analogue scale (VAS) and the days of hospitalization. All the data were analyzed statistically with SPSS19.0package.ResultsWe found that the total scores of deep sleep quality evaluation table in abdominal acupuncture group after treatment and on the day of discharge were significantly lower than those in sham acupuncture group and blank control group (P<0.05). The scores of six sleep factors in abdominal acupuncture group both declined after treatment and on the day of discharge, especially the time of falling sleep, waking up at night, early awakening, depth of sleep, dream aspects and physical condition during the day(P<0.05).According to VAS, the scores of three groups after treatment and on the day of discharge were all lower than before, but the scores of abdominal acupuncture group declined obviously (P<0.05). The time of exhaust and defecation after operation in abdominal acupuncture group were obviously shorter than those in sham acupuncture group and blank control group (P<0.05).ConclusionThis study shows that the abdominal acupuncture treatment may obviously improve the sleep quality of gynecological patients after operation, especially the time of falling sleep, waking up at night, early awakening, depth of sleep, dream aspects and physical condition during the day. It has exact clinical effect on relieving pain after operation, which improves the sleep quality and comfortable sensation of gynecological patients after operation further in order to recovery. It may promote the recovery of gynecological patients’gastrointestinal function and prevent them from postoperative ileus, gastroparesis syndrome and other complications after operation. Therefore, the abdominal acupuncture treatment has clinical effect on gynecological patients with postoperative sleep disturbance, which it is worth applying and generalizing further in the clinic.
