HIV Sentinel Surveillance For Drug Users In Suzhou Detoxification From2009to2013

Objective： To investigate the sociological features， the awareness rate ofknowledge related to AIDS，the characters of commercial sexual behavior and drugsuse，the prevalence of sexually-transmitted diseases among drug users in Suzhou.Understand the prevalence of HIV, syphilis and HCV of drug users, and provide a basisfor the effective AIDS intervention programs among the drug users community．Methods：To study all new drug users from2009to2013in Suzhou city as themonitoring object. With questionnaire provided by Chinese CDC， Sociologicalcharacters，awareness rate of knowledge related to AIDS，sexual behavior and condomusage etc．were studied．1804serum were collected and antibodies of HIV TP and HCVwere detected. Database Was sorted out with Microsoft office Excel2003，and SPSS13.0software was used for statistical analysis including descriptive statistics andinferential statistics．Results: We collected1804questionnaires and samples of blood, the responsiblerate of the questionnaires is100%. Most drug users are male, and the age below30years account for55.82%. Most people are married. People from Jiangsu provinceaccount for51.66%, and95.23%of the respondents belong to the Han People. Theeducation level are junior secondary school mostly. The answer rate for the “mosquitobites do/do not spread HIV” question is40.35%, the rest questions’ answer rates areabove75%.The addiction type for drug addicts is ice in main, accounting for69.29%, followedby heroin, accounted for27.94%. The smoking rate of male heroin drug users issignificantly higher than female, while the smoking rate of female ice drug users issignificantly higher than male. The injection rate of male drug users is significantlyhigher than female. For those who once had injected drugs,30%had shared needles with others.In a recent, the rate of using condoms for drugs users with fixed sexual is onlyabout20%, and the using rate is less than60%with the commercial sexual. Drug usersreceive prevention and intervention services for AIDS is still in the condom promotionand distribution/AIDS counseling and testing.In this survey, the number of infected HIV is18, the positive rate is0.99%,83drugs users are infected syphilis, the rate is4.60%，328drugs users are infected hepatitisC, the rate is18.18%. For those who are ethnic, low cultural degree, and sharing theinjection needle are more dangerous than those who have Han nationality, high culturaldegree and not sharing needles among drug users. The OR values are15.784,0.058and5.778. Women are more dangerous than men in infected syphilis, OR=3.318.Conclusion: The different demographic characteristics of drug users are differentin the awareness rate of knowledge related to AIDS，the using drugs, injecting drugs,sharing needles, sex behavior, infected HIV and syphilis rate. Therefore, we should takeappropriate preventive measures according to the characteristics of drug users, andpropaganda AIDS education knowledge in the minority or promote the clean needleexchange work. Also, we can recommend drug addicts having syphilis testing while inthe AIDS voluntary counseling and testing services, and pay more attention to womenin the behavioral intervention.
