Objective: To study the orthodontic-surgery for clinical assistant eruption ofimpacted canine,and to explore the characteristics and effects of impacted canines aftertreatment.Method: We selected the patient with maxillary impacted canine from the SecondAffiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University in July2011, male, aged14,permanent dentition.The bilateral molar occlusal were both class I relationship. Theleft canine was absence congenitally and right canine was impacted. Anterior teethwere2mm overjet,and4.5mm overbite. In addition, he had normal spee curve andright position Upper and lower midline. The extraoral examination showed his face wassymmetrical and underpart1/3of the face was normal. Meanwhile, the profile wasstraight. According to analysis of the cephalometric, panoramic X-ray film and themodels, it was the best option to apply orthodontic combining surgical treatment forerupting the impacted canine. Non-extraction treatment was applied. Firstly we alignedupper and lower denture, and then adjusted teeth axis. Continuously,we centralizedspace and retained deciduous tooth for repairing after orthodontic treatment.Results: The treatment course lasted33months in total.Conclusion:It can restore the impacted canine to the dentition effectively throughdiagnosing position and growth of the impacted tooth properly and rationally designingtreatment programs, using orthodontic approach combined surgical with a reasonable choice of anchorage and a appropriate pull. It maintain natural endodontium aftertreatment, as well as good periodontal condition and beautiful shape gums. There is noteeth discoloration and Root resorption. We get neat dentition, good arch form, normalocclusion relationship and satisfactory therapeutic outcome.
