| Objective: To investigate the stain removal efficacy of ficin (Fc), carbamide peroxide(CP), and sodium tripolyphosphate (STP) to human whole saliva (WS)/tea complexlayers on the bovine enamel surface under different concentrations. Methods:Tea/protein stains on bovine enamel were created by cycling specimens throughhuman whole saliva and tea solution. The Fc, CP, and STP were used to remove thestain from the enamel surface. In this process, the scanning electron microscope (SEM)was introduced to detect changes of the bovine enamel micromorphology. The colorparameters of specimens as L*, a*, and b*as well as ΔE*abwere determined by usingspectrophotometer PR-655. The best concentration data of stain removal for Fc, CP,and STP were obtained by using SEM observation of surface morphologic change. Tocompare decoloration efficacy of Fc, CP, and STP at their best concentration,respectively, and to analyze the hydrophilcity and hydrophobicity changes and extentof damage on the surfaces of specimens by means of contact angle meter and SEM.Result: The stain removal efficacy increased with the concentration of Fc increasingwithin a certain range (P <0.05). When the enzyme concentration increased by0.1%,the change in total colour can be observed with eyes. Authought the stain on bovineenamel can be removed by CP, STP to some extent (P <0.05), and the stain removalefficacy is not obvious, and the change in total colour cannot be observed with eyes.The stain on bovine enamel can be removed by Fc, CP, and STP to some extent attheir best concentrations, but the efficacy of Fc is best (P <0.05). Besides, there wasno enamel erosion after intervined by Fc, CP, and STP. Conclusion: The stain onbovine enamel can be removed by CP, STP, and Fc to some extent within theconditions in this study, but the stain removal efficacy of Fc is best. |
