【Objective】Radical Nephrectomy (RN) has been as the standard method tocure renal cell carcinoma in the past few decades. It is controversial thatnephron-sparing surgery (NSS) as a new operation method. Therefore, weused the statistical methods to assess the advantages and disadvantagesbetween NSS and RN in patients with small renal carcinoma.【Methods】 Retrospectively analysis the medical records of renal carcinomapatients who were treated with operation, T1a stage and one single in urinarysurgery of Qinghai University affiliated hospital from January,2007to Februery,2012.30patients were treated with NSS, of which21patients were men and9patients were women, the average age was57.3years old, diameter of tumorwas1.2to4.0cm and average diameter was3.03cm. At the same time,29patients were treated with RN as control group, of which18patients were menand11patients were women, the average age was55.7years old, diameter oftumor was2.0to4.0cm, the average diameter was3.13cm. To compare theoperation time, estimated blood loss and postoperative complications in thesetwo groups. Postoperative followed-up by table, telephone and other means toknow recurrence and metastasis.【Results】Operations were performed successfully in both groups. Thegender, age, tumor size, location and clinical symptoms are equivalent in twogroups. In the NSS group, operation time and estimated blood loss are higherthan those in the RN group (P<0.05). In RN group, the postoperative follow-upmean time is53.9months, one of the case occur ileus and one case occurrenal insufficiency. In NSS group, the follow-up mean time is54.8months, oneof patients supervene hydronephrosis. 【Conclusion】 NSS are more safe and effective compared with RN.Moreover, NSS can maximum keep the function of renal unit and improve thequality of life in patients with renal cell carcinoma.
