Objective To detect the expression of metastasis-suppressor gene(MTSS1) andmicrovessel density(MVD) in non-keratinizing nasopharyngeal carcinoma, exploretheir association with clinicopathological characteristics and role in the developmentand progression of non-keratinizing nasopharyngeal carcinoma as well as theirinterrelationships. Methods The expression of MTSS1and MVD in54specimens of non-keratinizingnasopharyngeal carcinoma and25specimens of Nasopharyngeal chronic inflammationwere evaluated by immunohistochemistry PV-9000two-step methods. Results The positive expression rate of MTSS1was significantly decreased in non-keratinizing nasopharyngeal carcinoma (70.37%) than in nasopharyngeal chronicinflammation (92.00%), P=0.03, and it showed significant differences in differentTNM stage, pathological grade and cervical lymphnode metastasis groups (P<0.05);The counting of MVD was significantly higher in non-keratinizing nasopharyngealcarcinoma (13.74±3.47) than in nasopharyngeal chronic inflammation tissues(9.23±3.06), P=0.00, and between different TNM stage, pathological grade andcervical lymphnode metastasis groups, its counting showed statistical differences(P<0.05); The expression of MTSS1and MVD were not significantly different ingroups of different ages, genders, tabacco hobby, and the primary site of tumor(P>0.05); The expression of MTSS1was not associated with the counting of MVD innon-keratinizing nasopharyngeal carcinoma (P>0.05).Conclusion MTSS1protein in nasopharyngeal carcinoma nonkeratinizing mayinhibit tumor development and metastasis, and MVD may play important roles intumor angiogenesis;Meanwhile,no correlation between MTSS1and MVD mayindicating that both of the two factors is independent during the transfer process.
