Objective: To explore the expression of vascular Endothelial Growth Factor-A(VEGF-A)and Microvessel Density(MVD) in colorectal carcinoma and their prognostic significance. Methods: The colorectal cancer specimens from the patients who had been operated inour hospital over a past10-year period were collected,with30cases of either survivaltime>5years or <3years.Immunohistochemical technique (Envision) was used to detectthe expression of VEGF-A and MVD in the60cases of colorectal carcinoma,Therelationship of their expression with clinico-pathological features and prognosis ofcolorectal carcinoma was analyzed.Results:5years or30cases of patients with colorectal cancer VEGF-A and MVDexpression strength and3years or less30cases in patients with colorectal cancer invasiondepth of embellish, TNM stage, lymph node metastasis is compared between, all havesignificant difference (p <0.001), and gender, age, degree of differentiation andpathological parting differences are not significant (p>0.050), and VEGF-A and MVDexpression positive correlation between both (r=0.974p <0.05).Conclusion: VEGF-A promotes growth, invasion and metastasis of colorectalcarcinoma.VEGF-A expression or MVD may be one of the important predictors for theprognostic marker of human colorectal carcinoma.
