Aruncus sylvester Kostel. belongs to Aruncus genus, Spiraeoideae Agardhsubfamily, Rosaceae family. According to literatures, the ethyl acetate extract ofAruncus sylvester has good antibacterial activity and strong antioxidant effect. Andthe resources of Aruncus sylvester are abundant and widely distributed, there is greatpotential for development. However, phytochemical study on this plant has beenrarely reported thus far. Therefore, the chemical studies on the extractof Aruncus sylvester is of great importance.Nine compounds were isolated from the ethanol extract of Aruncus sylvester,employing repetitive column chromatography, along with silica gel TLC analysis. Onthe basis of various modern spectroscopic analysis and classical chemical methods,the structures of six compounds were identified as daucosterol(ASE-6), prunasin(ASE-9), aruncide A(ASE-11), ASE-13, ASE-15,2-(2-O-β-D-glucopyranosylethylene-4-(1-O-(E)-caffeoyl-2-isobutenyl)-γ-butyrolactoe(ASE-20),1-feruloyl-β-D-glucose(ASE-21), sitosterol(ASP-1), ASP-2. And ASE-20is a new compound.A review of studies on chemical constituents of genus Aruncus and relatedgenera. Their distribution and bioactivity were also discussed in this thesis.
