Objective To investigate the pathogenic factors of recurrent aphthous ulcer, usingstatistical analysis to explore the main risk factors of this disease, and to provide the scientificproof for the personal prevention and clinical treatment programs. Methods By using the questionnaire of RAU’s risk factors,we investigated456RAUpatients (case group) and460people with healthy oral mucosa (control group) at the sameperiold. The high-risk factors of RAU was screened out from all the correlative factors throughthe non-conditional Logistic regression analysis. Results (1)The difference between the case group and control group in11factors havestatistically significant by the chi-square test(P<0.05).The11factors were long-termresidence,chronic digestive system disease, constipation, insomnia, mental pressure, debrisindex, calculus index, smoking index, liking acidic food, liking spicy food and familyhistory. There were8factors not have statistically significant by the chi-square test(P>0.05).They were nationality, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, overdrinking, like sweet food, liking deep fried food and the relationship between menstruation and RAU in femalepatients.(2)The significance of selected variables in non-conditional Logistic regressionanalysis was set at0.05. The significance of rejected variables was set at0.01.The result ofLogistic regression analysis showed that there were8factors selected in the regressionequation. They were chronic digestive system disease, mental pressure, liking spicy food, family history, constipation, calculus index, smoking index and liking acidic food(P<0.05).OR values of the first six kinds of factors were greater than1,and the other2kinds offactors’OR values were less than1.(3)RAU and smoking index in the two groups showed a negative correlation by the spearman rank correlation analysis(P=0.000<0.05,r=﹣0.170).RAU and calculus index in the two groups showed a positive correlation(P=0.000<0.05,r=0.133).Conclusions (1)These pathogenic factors from high-risk to small-risk were chronicdigestive system disease, mental pressure, liking spicy food, family history, constipation andcalculus index.Smoking index and liking acidic food may be the protective factors ofRAU.(2)RAU and smoking index in the two groups showed a negative correlation. RAU andcalculus index in the two groups showed a positive correlation.
