Objective To analysis chemical composition of calcium oxalate stones in differentlayers and study the mechanisms of their formation. Methods The30calcium oxalate calculus which diameter is from0.65to4.55cmwere obtained from surgery or pass spontaneously. Use SEM-EDS to observe themorphological changes and record the crystal structure of all levels and make stone elementsfor qualitative and quantitative analysisï¼›By XRD to do a matter analysis of the chemicalcomposition on samples of the core area and peripheral area of the stone. Then to comparewith the different levels about the composition the stones. Results In the30mix stones, mixed stones were found in28cases of CaOx and CaPstones, and2cases of UA. We found the contents of CaOx and CaP crystals in different layersof the mixed stones were fairly variable by XRD. SEM-EDS showed the percentages ofcarbon in core, middle and outside of the stone were27.97%,30.83%,33.73%, respectively. Those of calcium were12.05%,9.36%,8.95%and phosphorus were3.28%,2.34%,1.67%,Which have significant differences (P<0.05).Conclusions The results of stone component analysis were more accurate bycombining SEM-EDS with XRD. The mixed calcium oxalate stones may originate from thedeposit of calcium phosphate crystals and followed by calcium oxalate crystals, which may bethe cause of the stone formation.
