Python oil is the rare traditional medicine, which has effects of wind dispelling, detoxify, heat clearing, skin moisturizing, stasis dissipating and pain relieving. Refering to ancient documentations, it was used for postpartum abdominal pain, wind-toxin pattern, leper, frostbite, burn and scald, cracked skin, haemorrhoids, infant fever blister, gingivalatrohpy, gum swelling and pain, unknown toxin. According to pharmacological studies, all above medical uses can be divided into surgical sores, haemorrhoids and postpartum abdominal pain.Our researches are based on pharmacodynamics and acute toxicity, take animal models on surgical sores, haemorrhoids and postpartum abdominal pain, in order to evaluate the effectiveness and toxicity of python oil, all studies will lay a foundation for the further research of python oil. Results as fellows:1. Anti-inflammatory effect:python oil could obviously cut down the evan’s blue dye leakage in abdominal cavity; relieve paw edema caused by formaldehyde; curb leukocytoplania in carboxy methyl cellulose ballon; reduce tampon granuloma weight, suggesting that python oil has effect on acute and subacute inflammation.2. Wound healing effect:python oil has antimicrobial effects on staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans by bacteriostatic experiment in vitro; can promoting burn wound healing as acute open and infective sores, increase the content of hydroxyproline (OHP) in skin tissue; has effect on deliminating recovery time and ulcer square established by sodium hydroxide, suggesting that python oil can promote wound healing.3. Analgesia effect:python oil can reduce body wresting and uplift the pain threshold of mice, suggesting that python oil has effect on analgesia.4. Blood-activating effect:python oil can increase perfusion of mice’s aurical and mesenterium microcirculation, suggesting that python oil can reduce the pain caused by stagnation of blood stasis, accelerate the repair of the tissue.5. Hemostatic effect:python oil can shorten BT (Bleeding Time), CT (Clotting Time) of mice, and PT (Prothrombin Time) of rabbits, suggesting that python oil has effect on hemostatic.6. Antipruritic effect:python oil can obviously increase scratch time of guinea pigs caused by histamine phosphate, suggesting that python oil has effect on antipruritic.7.1mmune regulation effect:python oil can restrain the change of mice’s vessel permeability; improve the indexes of thymus and spleen on mice, suggesting that python oil has effect on immune regulation.8. Clinical safety evaluation:We did not get LD50 to mice; mice in maximum tolerance test are normal both on absorb quantity and activity, no death happened during the experimenting; there was no allergy reaction on guinea pigs’skin:neither erythema nor edema was found during skin irritation on rabbits, suggesting that python oil is safety.Python oil has effects of anti-inflammatory, wound healing, analgesia, blood-activating, hemostatic, antipruritic, immune regulation, can be used to surgical sores, haemorrhoids and postpartum abdominal pain mentioned in ancient documentations. Python oil has a good safety and no allergic/irritation reactions.
