The crop production is increasing with the film cultivation technique. But the plastic film resulted in the “white pollution”. Through field investigation and literature, film is recycled mainly by manual work, lacking the mechanical recycling with lower labor intensity, higher efficiency and adaptability. In this paper, a vertical stem residual film recycling machine was designed by research of the film distribution characteristic, film mechanical properties and operating conditions of the machine in autumn, the machine could achieve monomer copying and automatic film unloading. The work process and mechanical characteristics of the main components were theoretical analysed. Finally, experimental research of film recycling machine was done, work performances were verified to meet the design requirements through field trials. The main contents are as follows:Through field investigation, a membrane with six lines was found the main cotton planting pattern, the residual film piece was on the surface and distributed in layers within 100 mm on vertical direction; by tensile test of residual film with 0.008 mm thickness, the average tensile force was 0.941 N, the average tensile displacement was 212.6 mm and the average fracture extension rate was 212.6%; the average diameter was 14.4mm at the cotton stalks of 60 mm and the height is generally 600mm-800 mm by field measurement; then the shear stress of cotton stalks was analysed.The vertical stem structure and technical parameters were determined according to the investigation of work environment of the residual film recycling machine. The machine was mainly composed of suspension frame, double vertical four rod profiling device, recycling film device, unloading film device, protection of cotton stalk device, recycling film edge device and so on; the SolidWorks software was used to create a virtual model of plastic film recycling machine to avoid exercise interference.Based on the technical requirements of upper and lower copying copying and left and right copying, the structure of double vertical four-bar copying device was designed; by force analysing on XOY and XOZ surface, the various parameters of institutions were determined: a four-bar link rod length was 349 mm according to the initial work angle and the maximum down copying displacement and the maximum up displacement was 90 mm, according to 80 mm, the maximum horizontal copying displacements, the copying angle was identified 13°.According to the idea and the technical requirements of vertical stem fell membrane, the institutions to rake film membrane was designed. Using Hypermesh and MSC. Nastran, the finite element simulation software, the maximum stress was calculated as 334.7 MPa which was less than the allowable stress and met the strength requirement. Local deformation was found relatively serious by the modal analysis, After improving, the relative displacement was lower.The physical prototype was produced and the field performance tests were done. The result showed that when the buried angle of film rake tooth was 20 °-30 °, the install space was 70 mm and the average machine operating speed was 1.8 m/s-2.2m/s, the maximum plastic recovery rate was 90.2% and the maximum productivity reached 2.6hm2/ h. The agricultural production can meet the technical requirements.
