The environmental factors in tea plantation such as temperature, humidity, sunlight, etc. directly or indirectly, affect the process of photosynthesis and root absorption of tea trees, and then affect the yield and quality of tea. In order to improve the yield and quality of tea and promote the sustainable and healthy development of tea industry, we need to get the ecological information which impact the growth of tea in time by monitoring the environmental information of tea plantations, and then provide basis for tea cultivation.With the continuous development of modern information technology, wireless sensor network (WSN) is increasingly used in the agricultural environment monitoring, which is changing the management mode of traditional agriculture. This paper analyzed the domestic and international wireless sensor network applied in agricultural environment monitoring. According to the environment characteristic of Fujian tea plantations and growing behavior of tea tree, a remote environmental monitoring system based on ZigBee and 3G network was designed to monitor the air temperature and humidity, soil temperature and humidity, wind speed, wind direction and solar radiation in tea plantations to improve the efficiency of management and reduce labor intensity.In this study, CC2530 developed by TI Company was selected as the main chip to design hardware of sink node and sensor node. The data collected by sink node was transmit to data center server by 3G-DTU module. Each node was equipped with solar panel and sturdy external structure to ensure the long-term stable operation in tea plantation. The software of different nodes is developed based on Z-Stack by IAR EW. The function of creating a WSN in tree structure and conducting data acquisition and transmission is realized. The end node was equipped with task wake mechanism, so that the energy consumption was reduced.Tea plantation environment monitoring center using the transparent transmission technology and virtual serial port to complete data exchange. The data was saved in MySql database by VB PC program. With the help of Web monitoring system which equipped with interactive graphics display function, managers can view and analyze the current data and historical data of the tea plantation environment in real time.The network operation test shows that reasonable installation height of node and appropriate distance between nodes can ensure the stability of data transmission of WSN in tea plantation and accuracy test adopted by high precision handheld device shows that the accuracy of sensor nodes can meet the accuracy requirements of tea plantation monitoring system.The operation test of each part shows that the monitoring system designed in this study satisfies the demand of tea plantation real-time monitoring in mountain area, and meet the design target of system.
