The different nutrient solution concentrations and amounts plays an important role in tomato growing process. As over use of fertilization and irrigation amounts, cause the waste of water and quality of tomatoes got worse. The purpose of this study is to research the effects of different nutrient solution concentrations and amounts changes on the growth, yield and quality of tomato and the quality of tomato during Storage. This experiment was carried in the key laboratory for Agricultural Soil and Water Engineer in Arid Area of Ministry of Education, Northwest A&F University in Yangling District, Shanxi Province. By potted tomato experiment, Greenhouse tomato plants cultivated in buckets with perlite substrate were selected as the experimental crops throughout growth stage. The experiment set four Hoagland nutrient solution concentrations values(S1: 1/4S, S2: 3/8S, S3: 1/2S, S4: 5/8S) and three dosage values(W1:1.2ET0, W2:1.0ET0, W3: 0.8ET0). The main results are as follows:1. Effects of different nutrient solution concentrations and amounts on growth indicators:Improve nutrient solution concentration and dosage appropriately would promote the increase of plant height, stem diameter, and it was advantageous to the vegetative growth of plants.2. Effects of different nutrient solution concentrations and amounts on the chlorophyll content: The chlorophyll content was increased first then decreased with the low water treatment during the growth process of tomato.3. Effects of different nutrient solution concentrations and amounts on the yield and water use efficiency:Changes of nutrient solution concentrations and amounts had important influence on the yield and water use efficiency. The unreasonable irrigation and fertilization would have an unfavorable influence on the growth and reduce the yield of tomato. The increment of nutrient solution concentrations and amounts contributed to the water use efficiency and yield, however water use efficiency as well reduce with nutrient solution amounts increased.4. Effects of different nutrient solution concentrations and amounts on the quality :Nutrient solution was no help to the increase of quality if the concentration was too high or too low. The quality of tomato under low nutrient solution amounts had also been improved inordinately. Based on catastrophe theory, the author comprehensively evaluated theirrigation modes coupling with different nutrient solution concentrations and amounts. The results suggested that W3S3 was the most favourable treatment for tomato growth with the purpose of high yield, efficiency and quality.5. Effects of different nutrient solution concentrations on postharvest storage characters of tomato: Nutrient solution was no help to keep the storing and fresh of tomato if the concentration was too high or too low. It is concluded that choose a more towardly nutrient solution concentration was an effective method of prolonging the postharvest life of tomato.
