With the vigorous development of potato industry in China and significant improvement in people’s living standards, people are getting more and more demand for the processing products of potato. The special varieties of potato processing in our country is seriously insufficient, and can not meet the needs of processing industry. Therefore, the breeding of high nutritional value, good processing quality, high yield and good adaptability of potato varieties have profound social significance and economic value. At present. there are just a few deep fry potato varieties available in China and the dominant ones are Atlantic and Shepody. The purpose of this experiment was to explore the possibility of selecting deep fry potato varieties suitable for planting in Heilongjiang agroecosystem using Western Europe germplasm as parents. Twelve clones were evaluated for yield and deep fry quality in Harbin and Nehe using chipper variety Atlantic and French fry variety Shepody as controls. The main results are as follows.(1) There were significant or highly significant differences in plant traits, yield traits, nutritional quality traits and processing quality traits in the tested clones, Some clone’s plant traits, physiological indexes, yield, nutrient quality characters, processing quality characters were significantly higher than the control(Frech fry varity shepody and Atlantic as contral).(2) Specific gravity was not correlated to total yield and reducing sugar content, but positively correlated to the yield of potato marketable tuber. The content of reducing sugar content of potato in the two weeks after harvest was positively correlated to t he reducing sugar of potato 30 d.after low temperature storage. These suggrest that it not be difficult in selecting breeding line with high yield, high specific gravity and low reducing sugar content from progenies of crosses using Western Europe germplasm as parents.(3) In plant traits, the stem number had highest direct effect on total yield, while reducing sugar content, had highest direct effect on deep fried qualit y.(4) From the point view of the relative magnitude of the broad-sense heritability, the estimated broad-sense heritability of plant height, stem diameter, stem number, total yield, and vitamin C were more than 70.00%, with the highesat value being 88.91% for specific grabity. The broad-sense heritability of marketable tuber yield, soluble protein content, reducing sugar content, French fries and chips quality was relatively small, of which the broad-sense heritability for reducing sugar of potato tuber 30 d after cold storage was the smallest, only 22.69%.(5) Based on its ferformance of two locations, JT04-7-23 was considered suitable for French fry processing. It is long in tuber shape and was comparable to Shepody in total and marketable yield and specific gravity, but the fry color was superior to the control. T11-197-1 is suitable for chip processing. Its tuber is oval, and total and marketable yield was slightly higher than the chipper control variety Atlantic although the specific gravity and fry color was lo wer but still in the acceptable range. Due to high specific gravity and low reducing sugar conent of these two clones, both clones are suitbale for processing into flakes(6) Marketable tuber yield for T10-6-14 was comparable to Shepody, and for N10-4018 was lower than Shepody, but the spefic gri\avity of the two clones was higher than 1.080, and grade of French fries was less than or equal to 2. Therefore, they can be used as parent materials to further improve the processing quality of potato. The experimental results indicated that it is possible to select variety with deep fry ability using Wester Erope germplasm, which may be adapted for planting in agroecosystem in Heilongjiang.
