In the pet clinic, mammary tumors are among the most common tumors of the female dog, approximately 25-42% of all tumors, including malignant mammary tumors and account for about 50% of all. Lifetime risk for malignant tumors assessed to be exceeded two fold to five fold by that of benign mammary tumors. The incidence rate of mammary tumors increased with age; at age 6 years, it was 1%; at age 8 years, 6%; and at age 10 years, 13%.The disease is seriously endangering the health of dogs. Canine mammary tumors have complex types of histological classification. Benign and malignant mammary tumors can not be a definitive diagnosis by a general clinical examination. Therefore, fast and accurate diagnosis of benign and malignant mammary tumors has a guiding role of treatment. At present, cytological diagnosis has become a widely used and mature means in the diagnosis of human mammary tumors. Cytology has many advantages, such as time-consuming short, easy, fast and economic. In particular, the rapid cytological diagnosis of mammary surgery, such as imprint or scraping, has an important role in the determination of surgical procedures. In our country, at present, the diagnosis of canine mammary tumors is limited to the general clinical examination and X ray film to determine whether there is pulmonary metastasis. As most of the veterinarian will choose unilateral or bilateral hysterectomy to treat the disease, benign and malignant mammary tumors are often ignored. However, judging benign and malignant mammary tumors can not only provide the basis for surgical planning and reduce unnecessary operation, but also can make an assessment of prognosis. Fine needle aspiration cytology which is mature is widely used in the diagnosis of human mammary tumors. Due to the similarity of canine and human cells, the method and evaluation criteria may also be suitable for dogs. This method is easy to operate, no pain, high degree of cooperation with animals. It is suitable for the extensive development and research in the clinical practice of veterinary medicine. This observation collected nine cases of clinical samples of canine mammary tumors, with fine needle aspiration cytology, imprint cytology, histopathologic examination as research methods, with cytology findings and histopathological conclusions as research objects. The clinical application value of cytology can be evaluated based on the observation of cytology smears and histological sections, comparison of accuracy of diagnosis on canine mammary tumor by cytology and histopathological. The results showed that the histopathological diagnosis can accurately determine the benign and malignant mammary tumor, which is the diagnosis of benign and malignant tumors of the gold standard; the cytology results, by contrast, can be found in high accuracy. Cytology has a high value in the rapid diagnosis of clinical benign and malignant canine mammary tumors, it can develop the treatment and prognosis of the disease to provide evidence.
