Since the middle of last century, western developed countries had started research about planting technologies, which gained experience of theories and acquirement of technologies from the procedure that using information technology to monitor, control, manage the planting plants. Moreover, western developed countries had been preparing to develop more advanced planting control system. On the basis of sensor network technology improvement, how to apply the desired light, temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide and other plant cultivation environment sensor nodes and control system to modern high-level planting industry has become a significant direction of agriculture informatization research in recent years.As China is a huge agricultural country, although the reform and opening for the past years has gradually improved the planting techniques in rural areas to a certain level, but when compared with western developed countries, a big gap is still existing. China is still difficult to get rid of the agricultural problems such as human labor-intensive, low resource intensive utilization, fertilizer and pesticide misuse and other defects.In order to change traditional agricultural extensive cultivation methods, to solve related problems that our country planting industry is facing, researching an intelligent online planting system for improving agricultural cultivation efficiency, reducing the labor cost is playing a extensive practical role for enhancing the current level of planting technologies.In this paper, an intelligent planting system based on IOT technology has been designed and implemented. It is not only provide a new time-saving cultivation methods for balconies, terraces, garden vegetables in urban population, but can also be applied to agricultural enterprises greenhouse cultivation environment, aiming to improve the agricultural cultivation precise control and scientific management.The main functions of the system are as follows:(1) Control system and Peripheral equipment control. The system takes low-cost 51 MCU control system and Raspberry Pi boards for advanced control systems which is widely used by the developers for IOT technology. This section of paper describes the MCU use the 10 interface, ⅡC bus, electromagnetic relay, USB cameras to control peripheral circuits and electronic equipment. Furthermore, this paper describes the implementation of the network method to control the operation and data access of MCU including LAN configuration server method or remote WEB access method.(2) System Design and Implementation. The system takes photoresistor, light intensity sensor, etc. to monitor the light intensity and control the various types of plant growth lights in order to achieve plant growth demand for lighting in real time. The system use soil and air temperature sensor to obtain the current growing conditions of moisture content for achieving optimal humidity in the growth processes of plants. This paper designed power monitoring module and the power supply module by solar power. The system can get and store ground temperature data by temperature sensor, as a result, provide constant growth temperature for plants by controlling the insulation shed or to electroheat applications. The system achieve plant cultivation by carbon dioxide sensors to monitor carbon dioxide concentration and automatically add carbon dioxide for plants’need.(3) Intelligent control and Expansion capabilities. Based on the monitoring and control equipment mentioned above, the system use the networking technology, WEB technology, etc., for the purpose of achieving the expansion capabilities, such as abnormal state judgment, planting data analysis, the user e-mail alert and decision support, weather forecast, planting data sharing, plant image data acquisition.At the end of this paper, the implementation and operation of the system has been summarized and a view of the writer for intelligent planting industry has been proposed. Finally, this paper summed up the current lack of research and discussed future research directions.
