As an essential element to human, Selenium is known as "the king of anti-cancer". With the high antioxidant effect, selenium can enhance immunity and have good prevention and treatment effect to more than 40 diseases. Buckwheat is food crops with rich nutrition which contains rich proteins, amino acids, carbohydrates, vitamins and beneficial mineral element. Also, buckwheat is a good medicinal plant which contains the beneficial elements to human body—rutin. Therefore, the development of buckwheat received great attention in the world as functional health food which has the function of medicine and food.To explore the effects of selenium on physiological characteristics of buckwheat, and provide theoretical basis of buckwheat production by selenium, we used "Heifeng 1 hao" buckwheat as material and studied the physiological characteristics of buckwheat and the selenium content of different organs using the combination of seed soaking and spraying, under the condition of field production. The main research results are as follows:The anti-senility physiological characteristics of buckwheat were improved after the treatment of soaking seed and spraying with selenium. The activities of SOD, POD in leaves increased, and the content of MDA decreased. Finally, the content of selenium raised in diffenent organs of buckwheat.The effect of two combined selenium application had a better physiological characteristics than single treatment. With the increased rate of selenium, the acrivities of SOD, POD increased firstly and then decreased, while the content of MDA had a reverse tread. The change of the physiological characteristics indicated that the stress resistance of buchwheat was improved.The increased range of selenium content for different treatments was compared to the CK. The results showed that the increased range of combination treatment was the highest and the treatment of single soaking seed was the lowest. The content of spraying selenium (50mg/L) was the optimal treatment of seleminum application. Meanwhile, the content of grain selenium was 0.2819mg/kg, which was 1.17 times higher than CK.(4) Selenium application could enhance yield and thousand seeds weight of tartary buckwheat.The highest yield was 170.7kg/667m2 by soaking seed with 20mg/L and spraying the leaves with 50mg/L,that increased by 58.3% than the controls.The highest thousand seeds weight was 22.2268g by soaking seed with 10mg/L and spraying the leaves with 50mg/L,that increased by 4.4% than the controls.
