It’s important for application of domestic horticulture plants to choose functional plants which adapt to the bedroom light conditions, and absorb the formaldehyde, dust,antibacterial activity,and improve the environmental benefit aspects. The author chose21species of domestic horticulture plants.Pot and soil were separated from the haulm and put into a self-designed fumigating box to conduct formaldehyde experiment.The natural volatiles bacteriostatic action of6species of herb,7species of flower plants and6species of foliage plants was tested. The dust detention of the10species of common foliage plants in indoor environment is determinate. And the results as following:1. According to the ability of plants absorb formaldehyde unit leaf area from big to small order is Hydrangea macrophylla,Kalanchoe synsepala,Sansevieria trifasciata, Reineckea carnea, Philodenron selloum, Carissa carandas, Phalaenopsis amabilis, Dieffenbachia pictalodd,Liriope palatyphylla,Monstera deliciosa,Canna indica,Epipremnum aureum,Fieas elastica,Clivia miniata,Chlorophytum comosum,Hosta plantaginea, Philodendron cv.Xanadu, Neottopteris antique, Pachira macrocarpa, Calathea makoyana. H. macrophylla, K. synsepala and S. trifasciata have strong ability to absorb formaldehyde. Succulent plants or thick blade have strong ability to absorb formaldehyde.2. The selected herb,flower and foliage plants have certain antibacterial activity.6kinds of herb plants have showed good antibacterial ability.Basil and mint Mosaic have good antibacterial activity, they are the ideal herb plants.The inhibition rate of e. coli of2g whole leaves is21.67%-35.83%.The inhibition rate of Staphyloccocus aureus is16.83%-29.70%. The inhibition rate of Bacillus subtilis is18.18%-36.36%. The inhibition rate of Saccharomyces cerevisiae is23.75%-38.75%. Begonia, geranium, chrysanthemum and hydrangea are ideal bacteriostatic flower plants.The selected foliage plants has certain inhibitory effect on Staphyloccocus aureus,Escherichia coli,Bacillus subtilis and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. According to the bacteriostatic ability from big to small order is Scindapsus aureus, Chlorophytum comosum, Aglaonema modestum,Asplenium nidus, Hedera nepalensis and Adiantum capillus-veneris.The inhibition effect of6species of plants on e. coli is obviously but Staphyloccocus aureus. antibacterial effect of Scindapsus aureus on Staphyloccocus aureus reached24.8%. Research shows that quality of plant leaves is concerned with bacteriostatic effect on the premise of antibacterial ability. Dose effect is obvious. The inhibitory effect of different strains is different with the same kind of plants. Inhibition effect of the same kind of microorganism is also different in different plants.3. Comparison of10species of domestic horticulture plants dust absorption, Its ability to detain dust from strong to weak were as follows:Clivia miniata>Setcreasea purpurea> Hedera nepalensis>Peperomia tetraphylla>Podocarpus nagi>Anthurium andraeanum> Aglaonema modestum> Chlorophytum comosum> Epipremnum aureum> Pachira macrocarpa.Season or room temperature affect dust absorption of domestic horticulture plants. Low position help to detain dust. And relatively suitable blade wash cycle is from10to15days.4. Comprehensive results of absorbing formaldehyde, antibacterial activity and dust absorption.10kinds of domestic horticulture plants such as H.macrophylla,K. synsepala,S.trifasciata, S. aureus,C. comosum, C. miniata,H. nepalensis, B. evansiana P. frutescens and M. canadensis’Variegata’ is an ideal plant to purify indoor air.
