Ornamental Value And Applied Research Of Prunus Humilis

Prunus humilis is one important resource of the rare and wild fruit trees in China.There are abundant wild resource that can be used for wild Prunus humilis domestication, selection, processing, crossbreeding and so on. However, as an important ornamental plant, the ornamental value of Prunus humilis has not been systematic studied. In this study, A systematic study of Prunus humilis is performed including survey and evaluation of ornamental characters on Prunus humilis grafting and pruning technique, application mode as landscape and ornamental plant, and integration benefit, which aims at summarizing on the ornamental characteristics and application value. Main results for this study are as follows:1. Germplasm resources nursery of Prunus humilis are investigated from March to November in 2014, which located in Horticultural Experiment Station in Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology. Firstly, phenological period, the color,size and shape of flowers, fruits and leaves were investigated. Secondly, according to the evaluation standard of ornamental plant, characters of leaves, flowers, fruit was described and evaluated. The results showed that Prunus humilis is a variety with higher ornamental values. A variety of entertainment resources. Good landscape sustainability. Two new varieties of fruit ’W13-20’ and ’W8-2’ are breeding out.2. In order to improve the ornamental value and ornamental application scope,grafting and pruning technology of Prunus humilis was studied. Results showed that Prunus humilis could be grafted from June to September every year. Rootstock from Peach and Cherry are better compatible. Concrete methods as follows: T-bud grafting was used in June, and the bud survival rate was 45.4%, binded to tree while surviving.Shield bud grafting was used in September, not released until sprout in the next year,and the grafting survival rate was 36.5%. Ornamental value was improved by grafting and pruning technology.3. According to the performance of the ornamental value from Prunus humilis,we proposed the arrangement principles and forms of Prunus humilis. Prunus humiliscould be planted in park, residential area, city road, highway, arid, desert,sightseeing garden, flower border and flower arrangement.4. Economic benefits, social benefits and ecological benefits were analyzed from the gardens enjoyment angle. As an ornamental plant, Prunus humilis had a significant and comprehensive benefit.
