Hey is difficult for transportation and storage in its original form due to its loose and low-density properties, to compress it into a high density of grass product is a very valid way to solve this problem. However, the traditional compression equipment is with large size and high cost, which is not suitable for farmers or small farms. So to develop a small and efficient forage compression device is significant.According to the compression characteristics of hey, this study developed a cam-type testing set-up for compressing hey. The original cam is optimized, its purpose is that the working compression characteristics of the cam are fitting with the compression characteristics of hey to achieve the purpose of energy saving and efficiency. The main research contents include:the design of whole machine, the finite element analysis of main parts, the design of cam mechanism, three-dimensional simulation and analysis of the mechanisms in Solidworks. The follower displacement curve was achieved during the cam-mechanism working by kinematic simulation, which was consistent with the compression curve of the typical materials.Through manufacture and test of the prototype, it proved that the design and research of the follower curve of cam mechanism in the compressing test device is basically fitting with the compressing curve of typical material. It can achieve the purpose of the rational use of energy, proved the design was reasonable.
