Vegetable farming has been the largest planting, just second to grain cultivation in China. Due to the domestic research on dryland transplanter is lagging behind, even the vegetable transplanter has been developed, the operation and performance of them are still low. Guiding device as one key component of planting apparatus, which can directly affect the seedling transplanting performance, with its design. In order to further improve the operating performance and reliability for the seedling, the research on guiding device for vegetable plug seedling has been carried out. The task began with analysis of guiding theories, calculated in accordance with the sequence of action and mechanism design, a new guiding device was designed. Meanwhile,more research on the guiding device’s working performance with kinematics parameters analysis, virtual model assembly and three dimensional simulation, etc was developed. With the aim to further verify the correctness of the theoretical and structural design reliability, the prototype and planting system test was conducted and the trial data was processed.The main research and conclusions:1.Based on the research of guiding basic theories, obtained the optimal design of guiding device, by taking advantage of fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP). According to calculating of the action sequence and structure, the main structural parameters of the guiding device were identified.2. Established the mathematical model of guiding device’s kinematic characteristics, completed the analysis of the influence of parameters to the guiding device’s motion, and simulated its guiding process with the software of automatic dynamic analysis of mechanical system (ADAMS). It showed in motion simulation experiment that results were basically the same with the theoretical design.3. Completed the prototype and planting system trail in soil bin with the experiment scheme which was based on uniform design with mix level of three factors such as initial angle of crank, length of connecting rod and operating speed. The non-liner regression model of factors and indicators was fitted; further, the influence of factors to indicators was analyzed. Meanwhile, in the ranges of factors’ experiment value, the parameters combination optimization was carried out based on MATLAB. And a replicate test in combination scheme with optimal factors was conducted, it showed that, the initial angle of crank took 70°,the length of connecting rod took 356mm, the operating speed took 280mm/s, the indicators- rate of laid seedling decreased to 4.5%, compared with the best result of trail(6.8%), the rate was decreased about 33.82%, the optimization result was significant, which also well proved the correctness of the design and its good performance.It could meet the design requirement and practical application.
