Since entering the 21 th century in our country, with the increasing demand of the chicken products (eggs and meat) and the continuous pursuit of chicken-feeding profit maximization, chicken industry has been gradually changed from the traditional small-scale and extensive type to the modern large-scale and intensive type in feeding. What goes hand in hand with this shift is the professional, normalized, and smart modern feeding management style in which computer technology plays an irreplaceable role. Laying hens breeding is one of important links in laying hens industry, which directly determines health of chicken, and quality and quantity of egg production. To apply computer technology to laying hens breeding management helps to the improvement of efficiency and quality of laying hens breeding. This thesis aims to develop a network version of laying hens breeding information management system by use of computer technology.In view of massive data processing ability of computer, a set of laying hens breeding information network management system software is developed using "Life Cycle Method" Visual Basic programming language and SQL Server database are adopted in the development of the system software. Also, the system software employs Browser/Server structure which enables chicken farm managers to visit the system handily and quickly via the default website.On the basis of analysis of conditions and procedures of laying hens breeding, the overall structural diagram for laying hens breeding information management system is designed. In the design, the focus is to determine the modules contained in the laying hens breeding information management system, the data indices needed to be recorded, and the functions needed to be realized. This system mainly consists of farm and house management module, chickens management module, summary and statistics, and data analysis. The chickens management is comprised of several sub-modules, that is, semen collection management, insemination management, hatch management, immunity management, disease management, growth management, environment management, etc. The data that is in need of recording is the data indices from each module, for examples, semen collection quantity of per chicken, sperm concentration, sperm motility, etc. in semen collection management. The required functions are to conduct statistical analysis of the recorded data and to produce data report forms. Then, necessary adjustments are made for the relevant parameters in the laying hens breeding process through the comparison between the statistical results and the standard data.The final functions of the system are:1) to record the useful data indices from semen collection, insemination, hatch, immunity, disease treatment, etc.2) to conduct statistical analysis of the recorded data and to produce results in the form of tables and graphs.3) to make a comparison between the actual statistical results of laying hens, breeding data and the standard values to warn the worker to improve the production process.The laying hens breeding information network management system developed in this study is suitable for management of current universal breeding farms. The system software is very convenient in logging in, recording data, and examining statistical results, which contributes to an advance on work efficiency and a decreasing consumption of human resources and equips the breeding management of chicken farms with more standardization, digitalization, and modernization. This management system exerts an active influence on the development of operating management of current chicken farms.
