Quality Evaluation Of Urbanization In Zhejiang Province

Urbanization is the flow of people from rural areas to urban areas and also constant development and improvement of a city. Since the reform and opening up, accompanying economic growth, urbanization of Zhejiang Province has improved steadily. Seen from China’s new urbanization strategy, the future of urbanization in Zhejiang will not just focus on the expansion of the population in a city, and the urban function and overall strength becomes increasingly important. Therefore, the study on urbanization of Zhejiang Province is undoubtedly of considerable realistic and theoretical significance and an important task to realize coordinated and sustained development.The article starts out here from the principle of urbanization, and then establishes assessment index system based on the principal component analysis and factor analysis. Through dynamic and synthetical evaluation methods, we value the quality of urbanization of11prefecture-level cities in Zhejiang and use graphs to reflect the trends clearly. Then we analyze four principal components that affect the regional development of urbanization, including population, economy, people’s living and environment, to find out the difference among districts and provide some basis for improvement on the quality and level of urbanization. By analyzing the inequality of Zhejiang’s prefecture-level cities, we conclude that the level of urbanization in each city varies greatly and the regional difference has the tendency to expand. however, condition β convergence is obviously exist among cities in Zhejiang, which means there are a series of factors that prevent less developed areas from converging to developed areas. Hence, much attention should be paid to the backward areas in the course of accelerating development of urbanization, for it will greatly impact Zhejiang’s urbanization in the future.In studying, the main innovation points are that in this paper we build an objective, dynamic evaluation index system and evaluate development situations of cities from four subsystems——population, economy, people’s living and environment; in order to explore the future development of urbanization in Zhejiang, we use qualitative and quantitative methods to forecast the tendency of the inequality among cities’ urbanization.
