When China joined the WTO in2001, accordance with the agreement opened up and actively integrated into the tide of economic globalization. Banks, according to the financial commitments of joining WTO, China had to open the foreign banks RMB retail business, the geographical scope of operations of foreign banks, the scope of business and service objects after five years joining the WTO. After years of development, foreign financial institutions in China have a considerable size. Foreign banks have become an important part of China’s financial industry. At the same time, Japanese banks under the impact of the global financial crisis, the potential growth capacity constraints of the domestic financial markets in Japan want to expand overseas business in China and accelerate overseas expansion again. Japanese banks business strategy in China continues to strengthen in strategy of Asia.This paper reviews the history of the development of foreign banks in China, on the basis of the current situation, studies on characteristics and development trend of the development of the banking industry in Japan and Japanese banks in China. By comparing management strategy of Mitsubishi UFJ, Sumitomo Mitsui bank, and Mizuho Corporate bank in China, analyzes the Japanese Banks operating in China, then study whether the time period of each bank to enter China influence their performance in China. The article mainly uses theoretical arguments and comparative analysis of Japanese banks in China and other foreign banks.Through this study, there are following conclusions. According to the changes of foreign banks from2004to2011, foreign banks have a lot of space left to develop. The same time the total assets of foreign banks in China, and the number of outlets of proportion are increasing than last year, western region of China is getting more attractive to foreign banks. Provincial population does not necessarily mean there are a lot of foreign banks, which should extend personal service.By experiencing the modern development of Japanese commercial banks, commercial banks in Japan has a unique features, which is the customer is focused on the Japanese-funded enterprises. This provides a competitive advantage for the development of the Japanese-funded banks in China, but this may bring the limitations of development to the Japanese banks.By analyzing the history of three major Japanese banks in China, business scope, and the performance in China, I found that the time Japanese banks settled China has nothing to do with the subsequent performance of the banks in China. Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Sumitomo Mitsui Bank and Mizuho Corporate Bank performance in China is not relevant to the time in China, Japanese banks performance in China is positively related to performance in Japan. We have found that Japanese and Chinese numbers of the senior managers is balanced proportion, which allows each of the senior managers even deeper into the tube of the scope of its own jurisdiction, but it is also brings the problem of high operating costs. In addition, Japanese banks have always attached great importance to fulfill their social responsibilities.China policy efforts should continue to increase, the allocation of resources to achieve win-win situation is conducive to China’s economic development and the Japanese banks operating in China grid.
