Grain-size distribution is an important indicator of the particles. An accurate result of grain-size distribution plays an important role in water conservancy project, such as reservoirs, ports, waterways and so on. Traditional method has many shotcomings. For example, not only does the method need to take plenty of time to handle complex calculation but also it’s results has great subjective influence, which can not meet people’s need. Therfore, the current urgent problem is how to obtain the grain-size distribution of the particles. With the rapid development of computer image processing technology and microscopic image acquisition technology, application of microscopic image processing technology in the field of particle measurement has received widespread attention.Firstly, the paper introduces the research status of particle measurement technology. Through the study of particle measurement methods, the microscopic image processing based on autocorrelation algorithm is proposed, a new autocorrelation microscopic image processing system based on embedded ARM platform is designed. In addition, the working principle of particle measuring system and the autocorrelation algorithm is discussed. Comparing with traditional method, this method can improve the processing speed without sacrificing the accuracy of traditional methods. Secondly, the embedded Linux system platform was built. Image acquisition and processing of graphical user interface applications based on Qt was designed. The application of autocorrelation algorithm in particle size measurement system was realized. Finally, the experimental results show that the design is feasible and has good practical value in the condition of quick processing speed and low cost. The autocorrelation algorithm simplifies the procedures of particle measurement and improves the measurement efficiency, which provides new ideas and research directions in the measurement of the particles.
