Abstract/Summary:
Wideband foliage penetration (FOPEN) radar possesses an important application in military surveillance and reconnaissance since the radar usually has outstanding performance in detecting and identifying the concealed targets. The traditional narrowband signal model is no longer applicable in the wideband radar system. Therefore, this article will focuses on the characteristics of target echo, the detection algorithms and the hardware implementation of the wideband FOPEN radar. The main contents include:1.Discussion about the signal form and the parameter selection of the wideband radar systemFirst, the article analyzes and summarizes the key technologies of wideband penetrating radar in the domestic and overseas. And the appropriate radar signal form for the concealed targets detection is selected. And then, the article will sum up the relationship among the foliage penetration attenuation, the back scatter characteristics and the frequency, the polarization and other system parameters by analyzing the previous field experimental data of wideband radar. Then, the article chooses the most suitable operating frequency, polarization mode for the wideband penetrating radar, also the limits for resolution which supplies a theory basis for further study are presented.2.Research on wideband radar characteristics of target echo and signal processing algorithmsBased on the target echo model of wideband radar, the Doppler characteristics of wideband radar is analyzed, and the influence that the Doppler dispersion has on the target echo and the matched filtering for static and low-speed target is discussed, and then radar echo signal processing algorithms and processes for static and low-speed targets are presented. At last the article gives the results of the MATLAB simulation.3.Design and implementation of the wideband penetration radar hardware systemOn the basis of theoretical analysis, the design of the wideband foliage penetrating radar system is considered, and the establishment of the signal processing board hardware platform for wideband radar is discussed. Also the article will take a detailed description of the key technical issues in the hardware design. At last the article will offer the solutions to solve the key problems.4.Field experiments and experimental data processing of the wideband foliage penetration concealed target detectionThe existing radar components in laboratory such as the microwave portion, the signal source and the acquisition and storage equipment, are modified or improved for the experiment. The field experiment based on VHF band is carried out to detect the concealed target. The penetrating radar experiment is aimed to verify the good performance of the VHF band, and to prove the feasibility and correctness of the detection theory and algorithm.
