With the large-scale development of optical fiber communication and rapid increase in the number of fiber-optic network, it is more and more difficult and costly for operators to manage and maintain massive optical fibers. The difficult of its management is mainly reflected in the following three aspects:how to monitor the loss of fiber connection, how to identify the uniqueness of fiber and how to monitor proper access fiber with Melting Unit Management Module (MUMM). Recently, intelligent Optical Distribution Network (iODN) technology is proposed to address this problem. The iODN is that it applies the technology of electronic tags to traditional ODN, and it utilizes electronic tags to mark the resources of device port on Optical Distribution Frame (ODF). Therefore, it possesses some practical significance to study fiber identification and connection loss.Firstly, the principle of the iODN system is introduced and the main problems in designation and implement are pointed out. Then, the thesis combined with the specific enterprise requirements focuses on the design and the realization of the fiber identification and the monitor of connection loss from two perspectives of the hardware and the software.In the hardware design section, the thesis designs a new fiber identification based on electronic tags—fiber ring, featuring the convenience of identification, stably and efficiently, and uses it to identify the uniqueness of fiber. The key hardware modules includes:the design of progressive power supply circuit, the fiber port identification circuit design, the design of data information of the fiber upload circuit, the connection loss measuring circuit design and the fiber status indication circuit design, etc. Meanwhile, shaped PCB is designed according to the size of MUMM.In the software design section, the thesis designs software flow chart and programming on account of core software of the controller, which includes:the communication protocols setting between upper computer and lower computer, the software implementation of the fiber port identification, data information of the fiber upload, the connection loss measuring and calibration of the fiber resource information and so on.Finally, the thesis simulates the connection loss one by one caused by several external factors and summarizes several methods to reduce the single mode fiber loss. In the case that the deviation of angle is small, the connection loss of fiber increases in linear trend with the enlargement of angular deviation. The external factor which mainly affects the connection loss of fiber most severely is the lateral offset of the fiber core, rather than the surface gap or angular deviation.The thesis has achieved the goals that information and data of fiber can be stored and uploaded automatically, monitoring the fibers to be connected to MUMM correctly, calibrating the fiber resource information, real-time monitoring the fiber connection loss etc, therefore, it has solved the technical problems of intelligent ODN. The thesis provides an effective and feasible method and scientific reference for the development of iODN, which greatly reduces the cost of the improvement of ODF for the operators.
