With the rapid development of photonics technology science, the optical fiber polarizer has an important role to play in the optical fiber sensing system and optical communication system, it’s also needed increasingly in market. So the optical fibre reseachers are working hard on developing a better optical fiber polarizer with higher extinction ratio, lower loss and cost, more simple manufacture technology, better reliability and compatibility. Selecting D-shaped fiber as the research object, this paper designeda new fiber polarizer and tested its wavelength and extinction ratio by combining the D-shaped fiber technology and Surface Plasmon Resonance technology(SPR).The main test works in this paper include:1. Simulated the SPR curve when the fiber coated with gold film by using the Fresnel formulas.2. Simulated the energy distribution inside the fiber by using the computer software comsol. The optical energy overflowed when the fiber-polishing surface coated with metal film.3. Simulated and analysed the reflectivity and resonance angletheorertically with 650-nm,1310 nm and 1550 nm operating wavelengthes when the fiber polishing surpace coated with metal films Au, Cu, Au+TiO2 and Cu+TiO2.4. Got the D-type fiber by the side polishing system, and coated the fiber-polishing surface with metal and composite metal. Tested the extinction ratioes seperatly.
