Since 1980’s, a large number of researches on epidemiology show the potential connection between electromagnetic radiation and certain diseases, the public began to pay attention to health risk caused by electromagnetic radiation. With the rapid development of science and technology and the acceleration of urbanization, more and more mobile communication base stations have been set up in the city. It greatly improved people’s living standards, meanwhile the concerns about the effects of electromagnetic radiation on the surrounding environment and public healthy have be arosed.In this paper, we analyzed the characteristics and causes of the electromagnetic radiation pollution, introduced the basic situation of mobile communication base station, and reviewed some research on the base stationelectromagnetic radiation. By setting up models and methods on prediction of base station electromagnetic environment influence, we were able to obtain prediction results, and then 287 base stations from Zhejiang Yiwu District were chosed for the test of their surrounding electromagnetic environments, large amount of measured data were accumulated, these results were compared with the theoretical calculation. The results showed that the electromagnetic environment around these base stations were in conformity with the relevant provisions of the state. At the same time, patterns of the electromagnetic environment around the base station were analysed, including the irradiation and evaluation of base station to occupation personnel, distribution of electromagnetic radiation at horizontal and vertical direction, the relationship between electromagnetic environmentlevel and traffic, the surrounding electromagnetic environment level of headroom area in base station antenna and landscaping antenna.By simulating and measuring large amount of data, we suggest that limit of environmental electromagnetic radiation field from a single base station is less than the specified value(8 W/cm2), and in accordance with the limits of “Regulations for electromagnetic radiation protection” and “management guidelines- radiation environmental protection electromagnetic radiation environmental impact assessment method” and standard of “the occupation personnel and members of the public limited value requirement”. The trends of measured results and the theoretical calculation were similar, but the measured value is much lower than the theoretical value.Based on the above results, we put forward the corresponding optimization measures of pollution prevention from the aspects of technology and management, and the section of site selection, design, construction and operation.
