Sabotage of nuclear power plant is one of great threat to national security. For this reason each nuclear power plant establishes for protecting nuclear power plant. In current security position, if physical protection system can protect nuclear power plant effectively is an important question. Thereby research on physical protection system effectiveness has important meaning for safety of nuclear power plant.The paper introduces the status and primary theory on the analysis of. The paper studies some basic elements on analysis of the effectiveness of the physical protection system. The paper discusses key question when we research the effectiveness of the physical protection system.The paper calculates system effectiveness via risk equation. By analysis, we find the probability of interruption is the main index which affects system effectiveness. By calculating, we find the route whose probability of interruption is minimum, called critical path. By more calculation and analysis on critical path, we find accumulated probability on each node of route which can give reason for optimization and improvement of system.The paper use SAVI software and risk equation to evaluate the physical protection system of imaginary nuclear power station by giving a demonstration. First, we find the critical path by using SAVI software. Second, we figure out system effectiveness via risk equation. Risk evaluation result is unitary evaluation standard considering system effectiveness, possibility of adversary attacking and consequence of system failure. The analysis method can evaluate system impersonally and can find system weakness for improvement. The analysis method can provide evaluation result impersonally for decision-making’s security decision whose aim is reducing security risk of by assigning resource with reason and strengthening security management of nuclear power plant.The effectiveness analysis method of the physical protection system of nuclear power plant offers a good tool for design, evaluation and examination of physical protection system of nuclear power plant.
