The paper firstly introduced the background, the study status of Switched Reluctance Motor, analyze the two components of motor iron loss base on the complex flux density waveform of Switched Reluctance Motor, also analyze the mechanism and computational method of each component. The iron loss calculation model of ferromagnetic materials was studied, after the fitting analysis of 50W470 loss cave, how the several key parameters changing with the flux density and frequency was found, which included in Steinmetz formula, and a calculation model include two variable parameters to calculate the iron loss under sinusoidal waveform was built. Considering the flux density waveform in Switched Reluctance Motor is non-sinusoidal, the Fourier decomposition method was proposed as solution. A finite element model of four-phase 8/6 Switched Reluctance Motor was built, the establishment of the geometric model, the setting of physical properties, exciting circuit and solver were introduced detailed. Then the flux density waveform of all parts of the motor iron core was analyzed under the two typical polar distribution of NNNN-SSSS and NNSN-SSNS. Under the NNNN-SSSS polar distribution, the motor iron core was divided into different regions according to the flux density distribute in the Switched Reluctance Motor. In every region, a typical point was selected and its flux density waveform was studied. Under the NNSN-SSNS polar distribution, the flux density in the stator yoke and rotor yoke were studied, and compared with the NNNN-SSSS. Under both the NNNN-SSSS and NNSN-SSNS polar distribution, harmonic analysis was carried out on the flux density waveform of all part, then the iron loss of every region was calculated. The two-dimensional finite element model of thermal analysis of Switched Reluctance Motor was also built, the calculation result of the motor iron core loss of each part were used as source of heat for thermal analysis, the simulation results were given and analyzed. A loss test platform was also set up and the accuracy of the iron loss calculation model was verified. Finally, the summary of total work and prospects for further works were given.
