A Preliminary Study On The Tendency Of Europe Landscape Architecture Design Since Twenty-First Century

As the development of society, economy and technology, the Europe landscape architecture has become more complicated and innovative on the basis of diversity in 1990s. The pattern of Europe landscape architecture presents itself with various features, such as the convergence of art and culture, the link of permanency and temporality, the emergence of novel techniques and the application of ecological management.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the current situation of Europe landscape architecture and figure out the tendency of the development of the contemporary landscape architecture. This paper is focused on the landscape works built up in Europe since 2000. Based on plentiful case studies and literature surveys, the features and the tendency of Europe contemporary landscape architecture are summarized in this paper. By summarizing, analyzing and inducting, this study reveals the logic of the development of Europe landscape architecture clearly. The inherence, innovation and abandonment of Europe landscape architecture can provide a theoretical foundation and practical experience for the development of civil landscape architecture.Five chapters are contained in this paper as follows:Chapter one introduces the background, current situation, the objective and research methods of this paper.Chapter two reviews the development history of Europe landscape architecture of 1900s, analyzes different features of Europe landscape architecture corresponding to its respective periods, and figures out the external factors influencing the development of Europe landscape architecture.Chapter three is the summary of research objects of this paper. It is proposed in this chapter that there are four points commonly presented by Europe contemporary landscape architecture. They are regionalism, diversity, artistry and ecological concept. Meanwhile, this chapter describes the features of Europe landscape design from various angles, such as the balance and freedom of spatial layout, the geometrization and artistry of plane arrangement, and the diverse functionalities and novel expressions of design elements. All the theory efforts in this chapter are supported by plentiful case studies.The important features of 21st century’s Europe landscape architecture mentioned in chapter three are summarized in chapter four, which is clarified from three aspects:the inherence and innovation of traditional garden, the expansion of landscape type and the diversity of expression. The comparison and similarity of features between Europe landscape architecture of 21st century and 20th century are presented. Representative works in typical periods of Europe landscape architecture are studied thoroughly from a standpoint of continuity so that the logic of Europe landscape architecture is unraveled.Chapter five analyzes the current situation of civil landscape architecture design and discuss the problem existed in our landscape architecture. We expect that our job could help civil designers find a solution to resolve the problem.
