This paper depends on the cooperative project《A Comparative Study of Chinese and foreign Bridge Design Specifications》 with Chinese Road and Bridge, to make a comprehensive comparative study between 《Code for Design of Highway Reinforced Concrete and Prestressed Concrete Bridges and Culverts》 and 《AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specification》 (2007 Version). The research from the following aspects:1) Contrast the differences between Chinese and American Bridge limit states, design reference period, design working life, design safety class and the degree of reliability.2) Contrast the differences between Chinese and American material properties, and on the basis, the connection between the two has been established; Compare the differences between Chinese and American Bridge regulagion of dead loads and vehicular live load and load combinations for the two codes, then combined with generic example diagram quantitatively calculate.3) From the aspects of calculation assumption and calculation methon to compare the Flexural members, compression members, tension members and the anchorage zones. And combined with generic example diagram quantitatively calculate.4) For the Service Limate State, from the loss of prestress, stress limit, stress crack resistance, crack width and the deformation to rearch.5) Based on general design software Midas/Civil 8.2.1 and Doctor Bridge 3.03, with a lot of common diagram, the actual engineering calculation example quantitative analysis of operator.6) To estabilish the Surplus degree index to make a comprehensive comparison between the Chinese and American Bridge Design codes.First, the itemized comparison for design criteria, limit states, material properties, load and loads combinations, strength limit states, service limit state.etc. was done. And the Section surplus index was estabilished to make a comprehensive comparison between the Chinese and American Bridge Design codes.
