State Grid Corporation proposed the construction of information technology, automation, interactive features into a strong intelligence network, to achieve grid development pattern. Smart is strong and smart grid substation important part of an important foundation for the smart grid and support smart grid operation and control key. Compared with conventional substation intelligent substation with energy saving environmental protection, compact structure, improve the level of automation to eliminate a large number of security risks, etc., which implements an intelligent secondary equipment, operation and management of automation and deeper reflects strong and smart grid information technology, automation technology and interactive features. Based on research on the status quo of intelligent substations and summary of previous studies, this paper analyzes the automation system network architecture of 110kV intelligent substations, and proposes relevant recommendations for optimization. The study mainly involves the following points:1) It analyzes the constitution of IEC61850 standards; demonstrates the major ideas and technical points, etc. based on IEC61850 standards; proposes the modeling idea based on IEC61850 standard.2) It analyzes traffic type based on IEC61850 intelligent substations; proposes delay characteristic of intelligent substation communication systems; formulates solutions to improve real-time performances of intelligent substations based on multi-point vlan technology. It builds intelligent substation communication simulation models in NS-2, thus verifying the conclusions that vlan technology may be used to improve real-time performances of substation communication systems.3) It analyzes a 110kV substation network architecture. By comparing the advantages and disadvantages of four typical networking solutions, it proposes the three-tier and one-net networking scheme for 110kV substations, demonstrates key technical indicators in this scheme, and concludes the network configuration and implementation scheme for intelligent substations.4) It studies the design procedures for intelligent substations in actual projects, and determines the technical programs. It studies the advanced applications for intelligent substations, and puts forward the optimization schemes for the advanced applications. This paper has guiding significance for designs of intelligent substations.
