Study On Communication Space Design Of Psychiatric Hospitals

At present, China is in the period of social transition, social contradictions are becoming increasingly acute as well as competitive pressures, population and family structure has changed a lot. Prevalence of mental illness increased year by year, it has become a major public health problem and outstanding social problems. As an important part of psychiatric hospitals, communication space has a great influence on patients care and rehabilitation as well as the work efficiency of medical staff.To some extent, the quality of communication space also affects the social image of the psychiatric hospital.Author used the method of theoretical analysis and practical research.On the basis of understanding the psychiatric medical model and the evolution of psychiatric hospital as well as relevant theory of communication space and environment-behavior studies,the author concretely analyzed the characteristics of three kinds of person`s activities and space requirements,making the person`s psychology and behaviors as a entry point.After completed the theoretical analysis, the author made a lot of on-the-spot visiting of existing psychiatric hospitals in xi ’an region, analyzed the main problems and the shortage of psychiatric hospitals from the aspects of spatial distribution,spatial quality and activities,studied other psychiatric hospitals` design to find the design ideas and methods worth learning.On this basis, the author made a concrete research of the communication space of psychiatric hospital from three different aspects: the macroscopic design, the space joint and the transportation space. Psychiatric hospitals need a spatial system which has logical gradation, reasonable layout and clear communication streamline.The author also summarized a design method of space joint which is function-usable,changeable and multiple,as well as the transportation space which combines transportation functions and communication functions.At last,the author conclude five design principles.The conclusion of this paper is helpful to improve the design method of medical building,as well as optimizing the environment of psychiatric hospitals.It will be a guidance for the psychiatric hospital design.
