With the rapid development of the construction industry, the Building Maintenance Unit(BUM) is used as a new type equipment for washing and maintaining high-rise building. It has the characteristics of high efficiency, fast working speed and high safety. Limited by the structure of the building, BMU can only be a one-piece design and production. It is designed with heavy workload and long cycle. In the view of existing situation and requirement of the BUM industry, it urgently needs a sort of professional computer aided design(CAD) system. This thesis aims at creating a 2D parametric CAD system for luffing BUM. The main research of the thesis includes:The design and calculation methods of contact strength, local stability, buckling and stability of BUM’s main arm and column are studied systematically. This work provides the basis for the development of the parametric CAD system.The main parameters of the assemblies are extracted by summerying the existing drawing of BUM’s and analyzing the characteristics of the assembly. Using the dynamic block theory as the realization method of the parameters, the parameteric library of the assemblies are established. Through the summary of the collocation between the assemblies, the collocation rules of the assemblies are obtained.The CAD system for luffing-BUM are developed useing Visual Basic, MATLAB and AutoCAD as the software platform. The system can be divided into two modules: design calculation and parametric drawing. Users can use the system to complete the type selection and calculation of BUM’s column and chassis by entering basic parameters. Finally, AutoCAD is called to finish the parameterized drawing, complete the total assemble diagram.The luffing BUM computer aided design system Developed in this thesis has greatly shortens the time of the designers, effectively improve the work efficiency and shortening the product design cycle.
