The rise of Building Information Modeling technology is another development after Computer Aided Design in architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical and HVAC design. In the background of construction industry and on the basis of computer BIM technology is a hot research direction in current and its development prospects are very wide. But BIM is still very young and the development of maturity is not enough, especially it lacks a lot of automated processing methods and tools. These reasons caused the accuracy and efficiency in the engineering operation of BIM cannot get fully embody. In summary, it is absolutely necessary that realizing the automation of BIM technology and research on the secondary development of corresponding software.For designers, it is an effective way to improve the whole project progress that to shorten the time of engineering drawing. Besides, in the process of the whole drawings, it is also a kind of effective method of reducing drawing time which can label all equipment automatically. Therefore, this paper based on Revit MEP(Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) designed and realized the pipeline of automatic label methods and on this basis, in the background of BIM technology, researching the algorithm of label optimal placement. From what has been discussed above, the main contents of this paper are as follows:(1)The essence and core of BIM was deep researched and various configuration characteristics of pipeline were discovered in Revit MEP. The configuration of the pipeline were Classified, by studying the corresponding characteristic. Besides this paper established a method based on triangle geometry relationship of perpendicular theorem to solve the most complex and changeable diameter, branch more batch automatic labeling problem.(2) The method of Revit software modeling was researched, according to the configuration characteristics of the pipeline in Revit MEP this paper built corresponding framework and took advantage of the pipeline batch automatic labeling algorithm which was designed in this paper to complete the design of automatic labeling function plug-in.(3) Based on the automatic labeling pipeline, previous scholars’ achievement of labeling Optimal placement algorithm in other areas was used for reference, characteristic attributes of each member in Revit MEP were analyzed and the paper divided into linear type characteristics member and node type characteristics member, and then designed a kind of optimal placement of the labeling algorithm under the BIM technology.Experimental results showed that Revit MEP pipeline automatic labels method can label the bulk of the pipeline quickly and efficiently. Compared with the traditional method it simplified the operation and shortened the project cycle. Besides it also had obvious relevance and made the labels more intelligent for liner devices. In terms of the experimental effect of BIM labeling algorithm of optimal placement, through the comparison of optimized and un-optimized, it showed that the Pipeline optimization labeling algorithm which based on the BIM technology enhance the rationality of the labeling and improve the effect of human visual perception.
