The protection of historic buildings is not only the inheritance of history but also the inheritance of culture and art. Aimed at the problem of information scarcity and the faulted technological method by master-prentice mode, while, at present the information are mainly documented by drawings, tables, master-prentice mode, ect. However, those way of storing information lead to many drawbacks,such as,disordered information management, information expression is not clear and difficulty to look up. Efficient protection method is urgent to archive information of ancient buildings. The BIM technology provides a new idea for the protection and management of ancient building information. The research contents are as follows:(1) Aimed at the problems of the source and content of ancient building information. This paper puts forward from structural dimension of ancient building,time dimension of ancient buildings and participants dimension analyze the source of whole life cycle information of ancient buildings. Study on information content.(2) Research the information of ancient buildings redistribution and standardization. Ancient building information model is divided into monomer ancient building information model and component information model. Base on the analysis of ancient building lifecycle information, then research redistribution of the ancient building lifecycle information and study on the normalization and standardization of ancient buildings information. Meanwhile, the research contents include the fundamental information and detailed information of monomer ancient building model and component ancient building model.(3) Set up ancient building information model. Use the AutoCADARX platform, research method to add information to the three-dimensional model of ancient building. Basic information of ancient building are stored in the graphics database, save the basic information with the model, details information are stored in the folder, which is conducive to the information management. According to monomer ancient building information model and component information model, this paper studies the information storage method which include graphics extension dictionary and the named object dictionary to store information of these two models.
