Local Design In The Context Of Globalization

With the rapid development of social economy and science and technology, the surge in urban construction, architectural design appears a lot of problems. Lacking of local nature and cultural connotation leads to the loss of urban characteristics. Our architects have explored regional and national character for a long time. But in the current context of globalization, facing many problems, how to reflect the local culture in local design is worth thinking. This paper explores the current situation and the reasons, researches local design theory, analyzes and summarizes relevant outstanding cases. Then the paper proposes four kinds of local design tendencies and design principles of the context of globalization.Firstly, this paper explores the status of architectural design and its causes in the context of globalization, points out the necessity of research on "local design" theory. Then the paper carefully studies development process of foreign theory, the development process of the local design, the connotation of "local design" concept of architect Cui Kai, as well as numerous local architects for awareness and understanding of the local design. By all of these, the paper has a deep understanding for the meaning, features, and Similarities and differences between related concepts of local design. After this, the paper explores local design tendency in the context of globalization. The paper classifies, analyzes and summarizes outstanding cases, summarizes the design methods under various tendencies, and finally summarizes the principle of local design under the background of globalization. At last this paper uses "local design" theory to guide the practice of Shaanxi Province new library.
