With the rapid development of economy and urbanization, China’s Retail-based Mixed-use Complex witnessed the fourth development stages. The attention to the non-direct-profit-oriented space which is for experiential format and for public is becoming a tendency for those buildings for China. In order to solve problems such as homogeneity and lack of plural value orientation of Retail-based Mixed-use Complex, this paper studies the non-direct-profit-oriented space based on Urban Catalysts and tries to illustrate the design strategy which can maximize the effects of this space as well as realize plural value and sustainable vitality for Retail-based Mixed-use Complex.First of all, this paper makes the basic research on the non-direct-profit-oriented space based on the Theory of City Catalyst. According to different space form, dividing the space into three types. And then, making research on both physical and non-physical forms of catalyst elements of the space, as well as the catalyst medium of the space.Secondly, this paper studies how the non-direct-profit-oriented space making its catalyst influence on the aspect of realizing plural values. And then, to make research on the continuous guidance strategy of the catalyst influence from four parts: construction, management, policies and affairs. After that, making summary of the design inspiration of the non-direct-profit-oriented space according to last two study parts. Finally, on the basis of the design inspiration, illustrating the design strategy of the non-direct-profit-oriented space from four parts, which is “ the analysis and selection on catalyst elements, the space making of catalyst, the medium making of catalyst and the combination of different catalyst spaces ”. Also, at the end of the paper, the auther summaries the research conclusions and prospects the future development tendency of the non-direct-profit-oriented space.
