Construction resource management has been highly focused on as the important part of building construction. It mainly depends on network planning to allocate the resource and the human experience or project management software to optimize the resource allocation. However, there were many problems in the traditional resource optimization methods that the inaccurate source of resource data, the fuzzy optimization process and the unfeasible optimization results. BIM has been confirmed the important role in the precise extraction and the dynamic control in the whole process along with the further application of BIM technology in the construction stage. Therefore, it has the important exploration value that BIM technology is applied to construction resource management and optimization.On the basis of comprehensive analysis of the resource optimization method at home and abroad, that BIM technology was combined with computer algorithm based on the minimum variance method and realizing the dynamic management and optimization of resource in the whole construction process in the BIM 5D platform was put forward in the paper, which aimed at the problem of fixed time limit and resource leveling in the process of construction resource management. For the comprehensive inquiry for the application effect based on BIM and computer algorithm in the process of resource management and optimization, BIM 5D model was established which was based on the three-dimensional model related to the progress files and pricing documents in the paper that was combined with the specific cases. the resources of the whole construction process were optimized via the matlab programming tool and the computer, which was aimed at the unbalanced single resource situation shown in BIM 5D and based on the "minimum variance method" of the network planning optimization method in the paper. The result showed that the problems which resulted from that resources were optimized by the traditional "minimum variance method" were solved effectively through the optimization algorithm and a better optimization result can be obtained. The impact situation of other related resources after the optimization of the single resource can be shown visually and the influence on the daily entity cost after the optimization of resource amount can be also observed from the perspective of cost through the feedback of optimization results in the form of progress schedule to BIM 5D platform.. Before the project implementation, the research results of the paper is helpful to the project managers that they can intuitively understand the effects of changes in resource amount on the cost by means of construction simulation. Moreover, the data support is provided by it for the managers to conduct the fine management of construction resources.
