A Research On The Design Of Shilong Kindergarten

Nowadays, characteristics and history are fading out in China`s cities and villages due to its rapid urbanization. In recent years, mass buildings emerged in a short time during the reconstruction after two severe earthquakes in Sichuan province, which resulted in monotony in urban and rural landscapes.This dissertation takes the design of Shilong kindergarten in Yaan, one of the rural kindergarten reconstruction projects, as an example to discuss the architectural design method and thinking based on local background and reality.Given the reality and various limits, the author refocuses the design back on three fundamental architectural issues: firstly, the care for human beings, the user; secondly, the attention upon the interaction between buildings and the society and environment; thirdly, the consideration on reality levels such as economy and technology. Accordingly, the research focuses in this dissertation are the suitableness to children growth and development, natural and social environment and to the construction at a fast rate but a low cost.Architecturally speaking, this dissertation, with Shilong kindergarten project as research sample, is explained from three aspects: layout and space construction, shape and interface design and material selection and construction. Surveys of local buildings and kindergartens and conclusions of excellent examples, which are research results and design reference, are also included in the dissertation. The feedback of research focuses above is given by the author at the same time.
