Automatic transmission is an important part of car, with many advantages in many consumers’ preference. The large auto-manufacturers are also widely used in automatic transmission. With the manual transmission, automatic transmission has the characteristics of complex structure, such as high precision, high cost and high cost. Automatic transmission maintenance is an important work in the service after-sales service. At present, with the assistance of other instruments, we can self-diagnose the common faults of the automatic control system, but it is only suitable for the detection of electronic components. Fault diagnosis has some limitations; which is still unable to diagnose the internal mechanical failure, and the hydraulic system. Therefore, how to quickly and effectively diagnose the fault of automatic transmission has become a big bottleneck to improve the efficiency of vehicle maintenance.In this study, we analyzed the structure principle of automatic transmission and the relevant testing-diagnosis technology. The test method of automatic transmission was explored. Test rig is a device which integrates the mechanical and electrical equipment, which can meet the maintenance and testing of various types of automatic transmission, and load carrying device corresponding to the form of the engine front with rear drive. But at present, the domestic automatic transmission test bench has some disadvantages, such as more manual, slow response speed, low test accuracy, imported equipment, expensive, mainly concentrated in a few areas and enterprises. This situation can not meet the needs of automobile manufacturing and maintenance enterprises.As far as we have concerned, we design and develop the automatic transmission test platform, which mainly includes the hardware structure and software measurement and control part. The hardware structure of the system includes the design of the test rig, the analysis power plant and the loading device. The software measurement and control part includes the design test bench control system, the test system, the selection of sensor and the measurement parameters. Finally, the performance test of the automatic transmission is carried out with the automatic transmission test bench. The fault phenomenon is analyzed, and the test results are reasonable and logical combination, and the fault source is effectively determined. It is proved that the fault diagnosis of automatic transmission is of high accuracy and low cost.
